The girls!

Katie's camera was made in China and when she took the middle photo of us at the Frank Lloyd Wright "La Miniatura" Millard house she, by mistake, used the notorious "Yao Ming" setting.

Tomate Farcie a dit…

Hope none of you guys are having any trouble following the earthquakes. I heard there was "no major damages" but some building were evacuated today? Hope everything is OK.

Tall Gary: I don't know if anyone ever told you this before :-> but you do look tall! ;)

Nikon a dit…

Everybody looks so friendly!
A camera made in China? hard to believe :)

Tall Gary a dit…

I'm more than an hour and a half by car away from the epicenter. It started slowly then the house got into a pretty good sashay but no damage. Nor did anything so much as fall. I put my skateboard away when I realized that I wouldn't be doing any literal sidewalk surfing.

It's not so easy being tall, Tomate. I'm constantly dizzy because the air is so thin up here.

Petrea Burchard a dit…

Not to worry, Tomate. Evacuation of buildings is customary, just to make sure all's well. You are sweet to be concerned.

It's a good bunch, Nikon! We wondered about that a bit, why we were so lucky to actually get along. Then we realized people who love Paris probably have a love of art, architecture, history, etc. in common. Maybe you could start the Rhode Island chapter.

Tall Gary a dit…

Talk about synchronicity. In the women-only photo look at how well Carrie's blouse matches the awning behind her. Petrea's dress matches the awnings behind her. What's above Katie? All those leaves. And Pont Girl is, of course, unmatched (in all of her good qualities), although the colors in the awning just above Carrie's shoulder come close.

Alexa a dit…

Once again—green with envy! Sounds like you had a fab time. I'm so pleased for you, and also gl
(You gotta watch out for that notorious "Yao Ming" setting!)

Katie a dit…

Cool to see the photo of all of us! And Tall Gary you're too funny! I just checked and my camera was actually made in Japan so I'm not sure which setting it was on to make you look so tall. I thought of everyone when I heard about the earthquake today. Hope there doesn't end up being much damage.

USelaine a dit…

I see a new reality TV series in this: Blogging with the Stars! You are all LA celebrities now, and it's great fun to see you. That's a high standard for meet-up presentability you all set, I must say. Who knew I could look upon my blogging as a weight loss plan?

As for Gary's statuesque glory (regality TV?), I'm guessing Dutch ancestry. Second guess, Montenegrin.

Tall Gary a dit…

Wow, USElaine, you nailed it. I sometimes wonder if they're so tall because so much of the country is below sea level. You know, just in case... It's certainly not so that they may be closer to rotating windmill blades.

I thought the Yao Ming setting was self explanatory but for those who aren't among basketball cognoscenti (myself included) you can see who that setting makes the person closest to the camera resemble here on court, here with Jackie Chan, here jogging, or to go along with today's two-wheeled transportation theme, just his bicycle.

Without the Yao Ming setting I would have photographed less lanky, a little shorter, and just a tad beefier as I look normally.

Alexa a dit…

I think what fell off there is that I'm glad you all dodged the earthquake bullet.

Tall Gary a dit…

Alexa: I think that's exactly what I read just before one of the aftershocks sent those letters tumbling down into my keyboard.

Michael Salone a dit…

You all look great. Gary, I will resist making any comments of a "high" nature as I'm sure you've dealt with that your whole life. On the other hand, where did you find the munchkins in the photos?

Nice to see everyone!

Louis la Vache a dit…

"Louis" has grown quite fond of one thing made in China: Mme. la Vache!. :-)

Tall Gary a dit…

Where did I find the Munchkins, Michael? To meet up with them I took the 101 to the 134 then took exit 26 for the route jaune de brique. Then that took me over something or other. Whatever. They certainly had me on cloud nine.

Tall Gary a dit…

You do us a disservice Mr. La Vache by not posting links to this gorgeous photo, as well as this one.

Could that be a xiao that she is nearly playing?

Kim a dit…

Tall Gary, I laughed so hard I choked when I read about Katie's Yao Ming camera setting. Oh my. Then US Elaine's witty comments nailed my coffin. I mean exacerbated my coughing. First time I've gotten a sore throat from laughing so hard.

It's fun to see you all and to know that Katie from my old Berkeley stomping grounds went south to visit you all. I hope you convinced her to start her own Berkeley Daily Photo site (to compliment her post card site, of course). You fans all rock.

Okay, I just looked at the not so lanky photo of Tall Gary and I'm choking with laughter again. Gary, you're a comedy writer, right? You get paid for this, right. Such a gift.

Tall Gary a dit…

No, it's all just for you Kim.

USelaine a dit…

Uh, some of it's for me, right?

Tall Gary a dit…

Um, yeah, uh, a lot of it actually. Except, that is, the rather large foot I find stuck in my mouth. Hmm, I think I can get that hangnail on my right little toe with my molars.

USelaine a dit…

Bless.

Jill a dit…

Gary, Katie, Petrea, Pont Girl and Carrie, it's a great pleasure to 'see' you all having a wonderful time together.

Tall Gary -- I will remember to have someone use the Yao Ming setting next time I am in a photo, since I'm only 4'11.5" tall and am always put in front of everyone.

AND ERIC -- Lynette from Portland (OR) Daily Photo and I have decided that we will have a PDP gathering in PDX (and I'll invite Celine from Stayton DP, and any WA state DPers that want to make the trip) BUT, we want you to come! So whenever you can get to her fair city, we are going to treat you to dinner at Three Doors Down where her son is the Sous Chef. Please RSVP and we'll get it on our calendars. Like maybe next time you want to get out of town for a little change? So when can we expect you??

Tall Gary a dit…

There may be non-native English visitors here who have never heard the idiom "put your foot in your mouth,"

Jill: I wish that Three Doors Down was just that far from where I live. What enticing bait you are luring Eric with.

USelaine a dit…

Gary, you are lovely, and you were responding with the utmost grace to Kim, and I just took a cheap shot. You are a lovely man of divine humor. And since we're speaking of, or around, Hollywood, 'Don't ever change, baby'.

Tall Gary a dit…

Thanks US Elaine. I've never heard it put quite that way before. Usually, it's, "Don't ever beg for change!"

USelaine a dit…

MmeBenaut a dit…

Fabulous. I know most of those names. I think you made the earth move though.

Tall Gary a dit…

I would love for you to think that we were responsible mmeBenaut but the credit goes entirely to Carole King.
